This thread is my response in English to Pablo Milstein's EXPOSICIÓN DE OBJETOS DECORATIVOS DE Q. MARY

First, thank you to everyone responding to Hello with such kind words. Really appreciated.
I'm sure it's going to be fun on FD.
Unfortunately I cannot handle Spanish but the opportunity to be part of FD in English is such a privilege.

For Queen Mary's Art Treasures, I have a booklet published for that 1954 exhibition at the V&A Museum.
It has many of the wonderful pics Pablo has posted. Thank you Pablo for those.

Some of the pieces are in the Royal Collection e-Gallery in the Objets de Vertu category -
http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/eGall ... =288&row=0

and more in the Fabergé category -
http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/eGall ... tail=about

I really need to get to bed now and try to sleep after all the excitement of starting on the FD.

And here is Queen Mary enjoying her jade collection while the other treasures were gone from her care !!

Looking to the web about the royal collection, I´ve found this:

Queen Mary’s own collections included Fabergé, piqué, jade, lacquer, silver, enamels, rings, seals, Stuart memorabilia, fans, gems and jewels and gold boxes. In 1924 she was presented with the magnificent Dolls’ House designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens.

King George V and Queen Mary were perhaps the most avid royal collectors of gold boxes. They often gave each other boxes as gifts on birthdays and at Christmas (...) Queen Mary’s interest in royal history led her to acquire many boxes with royal provenances, most notably the exceptional group of English gold boxes commissioned by Frederick, Prince of Wales in the 1740s. She also acquired many notable examples from the extensive collection of her uncle George, Duke of Cambridge, which was sold at auction in 1904

I always knew she has been a great collector, but I´m quite surprised about the wide range of items she added through the years!!

The privilege is ours, Nellie. (wink)

Well, I have not read the whole article yet, but I have a question... did ALL the items go to the National Gallery... or did the family keep some of them?

Thank you very much Sabbatical.

The booklet for the V&A museum 1954 exhibition says another side to Queen Mary (apart from her collecting) was her patronage of the arts and her interest in every important loan exhibition during her life.
So I think these items in my posting above and in Pablo's were from Queen Mary's own collection(s) and which she lent to the 1954 exhibition.
I truly think the pieces were returned to her afterwards !!

From the booklet, there is a pic below here of a fan - which I was not able to find in the e-Gallery, Textiles & Fans, of the Royal Collection.
[ The Royal Collection belongs to the Sovereign (currently Queen Elizabeth II ) and is held in trust for her heirs and successors and the Nation. ]

So just how many of Queen Mary's various private collections are now in the Royal Collection we just do not know.
But many individual pieces are there, of course, and are identified as from her collection(s).

I did find this fan in the Royal Collection -

From the exhibition booklet -

Fancy our Queen Ena giving presents to her "cousin" Mary!

Here is a present similar view of Madrid's royal palace to the one depicted in the fan.

Did you all also see the Barcelona fan in the link?
(My sequence of words was not very clear.)

Thanks Nellie, I didn't realize it was an exhibition  despite having seen the word "exhibition" all over the place...
