Royal wedding: Decorum rules over designers for Autumn KellyAutumn Kelly, who says she owns no designer clothes and has bravely admitted to taking fashion advice from the Princess Royal, opted for decorum rather than decadence for her once-in-a-lifetime royal wedding dress, reports Kate Finnigan, Style Editor, Stella. Her Sassi Holford-designed ivory Chantilly lace and duchesse satin gown, with a
modest neckline, A-line skirt and a short-sleeved lace bolero, was pretty and respectful but not destined to set a trend in wedding dresses.
She is said to have paid the full price of more than £3,000 for the classic gown by the London-based designer a
modest sum for the wife of the Queen's first grandchild.
Detailing on the dress included a sun-ray pleat in the front of the bodice lace and a three-tiered waist sash. The full length of the two-yard cathedral train had Chantilly lace insets framed by hand-tied bows with cascading tails
Matching the gown was a beaded Chantilly lace petite jacket and, to complement the gown and jacket, she wore a Swiss silk tulle veil with a hand-beaded Chantilly lace edge. As Miss Kelly entered St George's Chapel in a downpour, her train had to be held away from the steps by bridesmaids in sage green Vera Wang dresses.
By today's Disney-inspired bridal standards this was an understated ensemble.
"I prefer to blend in, try to get it right and wear what's appropriate," Miss Kelly had said.
In which case, her most important royal mission so far – and probably ever – has been accomplished.
