But Sabbatical, please please. I don't claim to be any expert. Never.

I do use lots of books and am willing to share the information about the ones I have found best.
But other people would have ideas and recommendations too.

Hey Tanto Monta. I'm British, and coincidentally, wrote a few essays in my day at university about several aspects of the monarchical system (its historical trajectory, but also about specific elements in the British coronation. As you know, it's more a religious ceremony akin to being married to the State, than a true continental coronation, which is merely an oath-taking enterprise). Nellie's counsel in reading material is sound, as is all her other counsel.

May I just add that you can contact Buckingham Palace's cultural liaison officer to see if they can help you out? They did me back in the day.

(Also Windsor Castle's similar aide)

If I can think of anything more specific, I'll post it. :thumbup:

Thank you so much for all your quick answers. Yesterday I was trying to find any book around London. I visited 5 old books shops and I couldn't find anything at all. I went to Buckingham Palace and nothing. Finally I found one book (Coronation, Roy Strong) and I bought it. It's good because it talks about all the coronations from the 8th to the 21th Century, but I would need something more specific. I gonna try to find these books which Nellie has recommended me.
Again many thanks for your help, we keep in touch!

I tried abebooks.com and got the following results.

Confining the Country search to United Kingdom. -

Tanto, buying books outside of the United States is prohibitive -- especially the coffeetable or specialist subject ones you are seeking. I recently wanted to buy a biography on Princess Marina, but the standard £40 price dissuaded me. That's double than here in the USA.

As Nellie indicated, second-handers are the best way to go. Make it a day in So London and hit all the antiquarian type booksellers there. Foyles, Hatchards, Waterstones may have more books on the subject, but in their used book section. Staff at Hatchards are especially knowledgeable and of course, you can browse to your heart's content.

Incidentally, never go to the BP gift shop for books. Only go there if you want a tea cosy with Queen Mary's face on it.

Tanto, it occurs to me that we are thinking as non-students. When I was at Oxford, I had use of the Bodleian library, which holds all the volumes ever published in the UK for centuries.

I also used the services of the LSE and British Museum libraries.

If you are as you say, a student of protocol, you can easily use your student ID card to get a day pass to the British Museum Library, and perhaps there is a consortium to let you use Oxford's excellent libraries.

Frankly, I used to browse through Queen Mary's photo albums in the Bod instead of swotting up for essays. I'm sure they can be of service to YOU. ;)
