And as token of my appreciation for what you said, I'll show you a photo you've probably already seen, given your beautiful and astounding collection of Queen Mary pics, but perhaps some others may not have. I was saving it for a special occasion, such as this.

You know that Lady Airlie, her long-time friend and lady-in-waiting, wrote in her memoirs that Queen Mary loved showing off her legs in private.

The Queen once plaintively said about having to wear those long skirts, until the King's death, that "It's a shame. They're my best feature".

In fact, all her granddaughters, especially Alexandra of Kent, have awesome legs due to her.

Just thought we needed another pic of Queen Mary.

I think she was a bit of a tomboy as a child- possibly wanted to grow up to become an engine driver.

At Swindon! LOL. Fantastic pic as usual, Nellie.

In Pope-Hennessy's (excellent) biography of Queen Mary, he mentions that she never liked riding, in fact, I don't recall one single instance where I've read that May of Teck rode, though she must've.

Though I know you didn't mean it literally, the one time she was naughty, and tomboyish that I recall, was when she took the sash off the dress of one of her little girl friends, and ran to the sea, flinging it unto the waves with a whoop of joy.

Since it was out of character for May to do so, I shouldn't think the little friend cried or told on her. (grin)

Then there is that moment in The Lost Prince where "she" runs after the Russian Grand Duchesses like a little girl herself. That was lovely.

I might upload that just for Dinastias and you, Nellie.

Sorry, but I rated that show about 2.5 out of 10.
I felt the research went no deeper than looking at the popular (tabloid?) press of the day.

One day I will start a thread on Prince John that shows much more of his interaction with his family.

Well, naturally. It stems from Poliakoff's own obsession (let's be kind, and call it fascination) with his White Russian background. He also has decidedly unrealistic viewpoints of Tsarina Alexandra's personality, and though I thought Tom Hollander's George V was spot on for physique, he overdid the gruff, charmless stereotype. We won't even talk of the bizarre Nicholas II that Serbian actor did.

"Mobilizat'sye!", I can still hear him in his ridiculous swimming costume...

What I liked, and what I meant to show in this small clip, was the recreation of a visual which I thought was rather good.

I've been trying to get our Spanish forum colleagues interested enough to watch "Romanovy: An Imperial Family" on Frozentears. No dice, so far. The language barrier, I'm afraid, is a problem.
