Where are you getting these photos! Nice series. Very clear, and you can see the Queen's face full-on.

You know, the whole topic of Queen Mary's colletion "craze" has raised a lot of claims about her being a kleptomaniac, which is ridiculous, if funny. Can you just imagine her stealing a Fabergé egg by putting it inside her toque? (grin)

Her tastes were very expensive, and her collections, which included jewels, cost her husband a lot, but a lot of money.

But it's not like he could complain. He was one of the world's foremost stamp collectors, and spent hundreds of guineas on his collection in his day.

Their son, George VI, continued his father's tradition. Here he is, looking at his stamp colletion.

No, Katyusha! She didn't suffer from kleptomania. That's a horrible rumour that has plagued her memory since the 1930s.

It was originally spread by White Russian emigrés, who had heard rumours that she underpaid for the Romanovs' jewels (she didn't! She paid the going rate, which is more than they would've gotten elsewhere). Then later, angry British aristocrats started complaining that the Queen went to their country houses to "request" certain pieces be returned to the Royal Collection. Their provenance was sometimes in question, and rightfully belonged to the British Royal Family.

See? She was DEFINITELY NOT a klepto. :o

Just like for the royals today, authors have been known to be very selective about pics chosen by them to support their theories about the royals.

There are many pics of Queen Mary enjoying small children while going about her royal duties.

The thing is, however much I like David, the Prince of Wales, I have to admit that he did a number on his mother in his memoirs and by constantly referring to her as a b---c, with "ice running through her veins". Of course, in reality, he adored her but in an immature, Freudian way. The kind that always feels rejected if the mother doesn't make him the centre of her universe.

After the FD remake I found the alerts no longer work so I neglected FD a bit.
I miss the regular ping in the inbox for FD activity.

I mainly blame the tabloid press over the ages for rerunning the narrow views on certain royals, with specially selected pics of course.
Then the same stuff gets trotted out over and over on the internet too.
However we true royal enthusiasts know our royals better than that.

More shopping, with Queen Alexandra - for furniture or for some jewels on display in the cabinet.
